If you have ever walked down Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, you probably recognize this sculpture called “Swing” by George Lundeen.
As an aspiring sculptor myself, I have been following his work for about 27 years. George Lundeen is one of the most successful and well-known sculptors in Colorado, and one of the founders of a great community of artists in Loveland Colorado. Anyone that is interested in sculpture should definitely check out the two large sculpture shows held there every year in August. www.sculptureinthepark.org
Lundeen is a classically trained artist, and studied in Florence, Italy. He also has three other family members who are accomplished sculptors. Check out their website: http://www.lundeensculpture.com/
Here are two of George’s more recent pieces:

Gerald Balciar is another artist you may be familiar with. His specialty is stylized Animal sculptures in bronze and marble, and has several at the Denver Zoo. This live-size mother and baby hippo are hard to miss.

I took a sculpture class Balciar gave a few years ago at the Art Students League. He invited the entire class down to his studio to see a large marble sculpture of two seals that he was finishing. He and his family had been up all night sanding down the surface until it was as smooth as glass. I had no idea how much work and skill goes into making something so large out of marble. Here are some other works by Balciar:
If you do get a chance to see the sculpture shows in Loveland, they have a large Collection on display at the Benson Park Sculpture Garden. One sculpture there that I have always found interesting is one called “Harvest” By Seth Vandable.

I like the way this piece tells a story, and really showcases the fact that this artist is a master of human anatomy.
