Networking that is.
I’m an online social networking junkie- I’m on LinkedIn, Facebook, have three email accounts, went through a MySpace phase, and as of 3 weeks ago… I also have a Twitter account.
My latest networking craze…. networking events. Where… bars and restaurants all over Denver. My partner in crime…. Katie Jewett, our Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Citizen and the person from whom I stole this blog’s curiosity spiking title.
So why networking events? Why would I rather meet another business person face to face and have a conversation at a bar, instead of searching them on LinkedIn or Facebook, or maybe typing their name or company into Google, and just sending them an email introducing myself. What is it about exchanging business cards and a smile that is so different from a friend request on Facebook?
I don’t actually have an answer to this. I’m more just throwing it out there. It’s something to ponder. I’ll think about it. You think about it. You should respond to this post, maybe I’ll write another blog entry with what ever I come up with. We’ll chat. Online. Through this social networking outlet.
Anyway, back to these networking events. So now that I have another attendee’s business card, shared a face to face conversation, and noticed what drink they are indulging in, I will go back to my computer tomorrow, or my iphone tonight if I am so inclined. I might type up some thoughts for my next blog post or Google a term I heard that evening….But I will be sure to search for the people, whose business cards I now have in my purse, on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, hoping that they will confirm me as their connection, follower, and friend… and then I will follow up with a “so wonderful to meet you” email from my business email account the next day.
